Chapter 3 - The Ecstasy of Life

As Buck becomes involved in hunting down rabbits, he feels great joy: "There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise...this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive." Have you ever felt so focused on what you're experiencing that you forget everything else and simply take joy in the moment? Tell us about it!

  1. One time that I felt this 'ectasy' was when I was on a big rollercoaster. I was so thrilled in the ride that i forgot about everything else. I was feeling fear, joy, and great thrill. This is similar to when buck was hunting down the rabbit, and had the thrilling sensation, and forgot about everything else. That is ectasy.

  2. Interesting Jonny, because I experienced the same thing as you did. Once I was on a scary ride (well... others disagreed with me, but I thought it was scary), and I was so concentrated on my fear, that I completely forgot everything else that wasnt related to me clinging on for my life :) So you made a good relation with Buck when he hunts down rabbits to riding a scary ride.

  3. For me, it's not roller coaster rides (I get motion sick, so I avoid them), but it's slightly tamer thrill rides that move me close to ecstasy. I've only water skied a handful of times, but each time I successfully rose from the water and then successfully circumnavigated the lake, I almost forgot everything else. Almost, but not quite, since I needed to stay alert in order to keep my balance.

  6. For me whenever i am on a roller coaster i feel as though my lungs just stopped i guess that can be refered to ecstasy. But ecstacy seems like true excitement which is not what i feel on a roller coaster. However sometimes i will watch a movie and there will be a really thrilling part where i got so enthusiastic and excited i could not sit down i was jumping everywhere than my mom told me to stop.
